Brothers and PGA Professionals Jeff and Todd Bishop created Dormie Workshop in the fall of 2014. A leather accessory business specializing in hand-made golf products, their business is founded on three principles: innovative design, highest quality craftsmanship, and industry-leading customer service. Today, Dormie is still family-owned and operated. The youngest Bishop brother, Alex, is the lead designer for Dormie’s ever-expanding product line. To Dormie Workshop is all about a high-end product, bringing fellow golfers really cool head covers and allowing them to be involved in the creation process. They combine their passion for design and individuality with functionality and practicality and the Able Sense team was proud to optimize their new Shopify platform to match.

A collaborative approach

Jeff and the Dormie Workshop team, in collaboration with Tim Foster from fellow Halifax-based company Dose Media, came to Able Sense asking for a newly-improved custom Shopify-themed e-commerce site that would best represent their high-quality leather accessory as they expand their business in the US. Dormie required a website that not only provided the highest representation of their brand but also would help to maintain the high level of customer service that clients are used to receiving in both Canada and the US. We married our in-house Shopify expertise with Dose Media’s design to complement the Dormie Workshop brand.

Going with the Shopify flow

The Able Sense team created customized solutions that helped improve the already-extraordinary out-of-the-box features and functionality of Shopify, keeping the number of installed apps and integrations to a minimum. The result is a seamless user experience, with improvements in order efficiency, mobile compatibility and enhanced navigation. With a beautiful layout, highly-functional design and improved accessibility for their fans and customers, Dormie Workshop’s new Shopify platform mirrors the feel of the brand itself: high-quality and professional, with more than a little personality.

Designed to impress

With Dose Media’s design, the Able Sense team provided Dormie Workshop with what they needed: advanced layout and styles for maximum visual impact, custom overlays in the collection header, and a featured product block and blog video/article section on the front page. We capitalized on the usability of Shopify Theme Sections to ensure that anyone on the Dormie Workshop staff (not just content experts) would be able to manage the content. We updated Dormie Workshop’s PDPs with with new descriptions as well as a new tagging process in order to use custom colour filters in the design.
